Thanksgiving, duck hunting science, and a game of scrabble

Well hello all! Long time no blog LOL. It's been busy here with the holiday season kicking in, and I am finally starting to have more energy after my b12 shot and starting my supplements, so I have been busy around the house instead of sitting down to get on here.. We have of course been doing school and learning everyday. The unit on the pilgrims in our history book just happened to hit right on time for Thanksgiving.
A read Squanto, Friend of the Pilgrims, traced the pilgrims voyage, listened to me read aloud The Diary of Remember Patience Whipple and then wrote a paper on the first Thanksgiving.
The pic is not the best, but at least you can see the gist of it.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are so blessed that even though we do not have family on this island, we have so many great friends. Our house was full for the entire day, with 5 guests joining us for dinner.

After sleeping the late the next morning, A and I got to work decorating the tree.
Mom, this pic is for you ;)

Warning......do not read further if you are offended by hunting or the dissection of animals........

This past weekend, Dh to A duck hunting for the first time. They brought home a duck and A was so proud. ...remind me to tell yall the story of the "duck who wouldn't die" sometime when I am not so tired. LOL
But of course my little scientists, does not just see a mean when she looks at the duck. Oh no, she was jumping up and down while dh did the cleaning, begging for the organs to dissect  Well, the stomach and intestines to dissect  what she really wanted to do with the heart, was to put it on ice, and shot another duck the next day and attempt a heart transplant!

She eventually settled on the dissection of both.

She was able to observe first hand how birds often eat small stone to help grind and digest their food as the ducks stomach was full of tiny pebbles. She could also see some seaweed fragments.

Alright, enough gross out pics. Today we did nothing so interesting, but played a fun game of scrabble in the afternoon that has proven I need to bone up on my words. Now granted I have never been great at this game or at spelling (which this game totally needs), but when the 5 year old's score is less than 40 points less than yours....well I think I am in trouble! LOL.

Night all. I will try to be better about sharing what is going on around here.

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I hope it was a wonderful day filled with smiles, love, and laughter. Here on our island, being so very far from many of those we love....my mom, Dh's family, we can choose to sit and miss or we can take it into our own hands and create our moment...and that is what we did on this day.

I started cooking early this morning, preparing for a great meal. By early afternoon my house was filled with friends both old and new ready to sit down and share a meal with us.Create your own family, isn't that what they say....well we were a interesting bunch....A friend who has lived on the island 14 yeas, and whose wife is off island with their son awaiting the birth of their next child, A police officer who has been here for several years, who Ansley just looks up to with such admiring eyes LOL, a new officer who has been on the island for less than a week, and another couple, he's a police officer as well, who have been here for 4 months. It was a great meal, with great friends new and old, and my heart is filled with happiness.

I am so thankful for many many things this year. For my home, family, and country in which we are free and where I can praise God from whom all blessings flow. I am thankful that even living were we do, we have met great friends and such amazing people.

I am thankful that I am finally starting to feel better and for the wonderful doctor I have who is figuring everything out. I found out last week that my Vitamin b12 levels were low, along with my magnesium levels, and that my eosinophils are way high and thus explain the massive asthma issues I have been having.

So I started on magnesium and 2 for allergies/asthma, and am not getting shots for b12 and seriously, after one shot I am already having more energy. We are still waiting to see what my Vit. D levels will be, but I am thankful for a wonderful friend and provider who helps figure me out.

So that is actually why I have not been posting as much. Between the chronic migraines and asthma and no energy I have just not been all here. Hopefully what I am doing now will start to relieve those and I will be back to myself very soon.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Now I am off to sleep and exhausted sleep.

Creative Musings of a 5 year old

A has been busy as usual lately, but has spent a great deal of her time experessing herself creatively through drawing.

While I was fixing dinner the other day, she created the dot to dot for me to complete.

The fox on black paper and oil pastel that she created in art class the other day. I love it and it is now framed and hanging in her room.
A girl eating an ice cream cone at the beach and spilling her cherry soda :)
And just like her dad, the obsession with Calvin and Hobbes has begun. I am amazed by these drawings she is doing.

And these 3 are all from this afternoon.

We may even have a budding comic strip creator.

And the creativity hasn't just been limited to paper. She decided to create a Thanksgiving ginger bread house. I had a massive migraine so dh took A and her best friend to the park Sunday so I could rest. Then he swung by the store with them where they promptly picked out tons of candy to create their vision.

This was done completely on there own. They thought of everything from grass, to coco powder for the soil. Amazing. Now if I can just keep the dog from eating it we should be good.

I love A's creativity and hope that spark always stays with her.

Happy Late Halloween

A little late, but here are pics from our chilly but fun Halloween.

A let me take some adorable pics of her that morning before we got in to her costume and headed to the PCR for some community Halloween fun.

I know I am a little bias....but she is so beautiful!

That evening it was time to dress up. A little fox was ready to head out and go trick-or-treating.

And Dh snapped this pic of me :)

We went to the PCR and played lots of games, saw some friends, and A even one first prize in the costume contest. Here's a pic to show her cute little fox tail :)

 Friends!

Then it was time to freeze, brave the 50+ mph winds and snow, and go trick-or-treating....yes we are nuts, but we're Alaskans LOL.

Happy Late Halloween!

Halloween eve

A little late, but here they are....pics from the Night Before Halloween! Whoooooooooooo LOL

We carved pumpkins,

 Had a blast getting messy....
Evan Dad got in on the fun.
A friendly pumpkin face to light up the night.
And of course we needed treats!

 Absolutely delicious.
I am off to bed. It has been a busy week, and the internet was down much of the weekend and the earlier part of the week due to winter storms. I will try to get the actually Halloween pics posted tomorrow.
